Education

Hello everyone, I hope you have a great weekend .

Today I am going to answer (according to my opinion) the following question: Do private schools offer higher quality education or are they just prestigious?

This is a tricky question, since the quality of education does not depend only on the resources that the school can provide to the students, nor how good the teachers are, but also on the vulnerability of the sector in which it is located, not it is the same to teach a student who grew up in a stable and safe environment as one who grows up in a violent and/or poverty environment.

Despite this, it can be observed in Chile that from the first steps of the introduction of the educational system to the student (aka the kindergarten) that the one with more resources will have a better education, either because of the extra material and of better quality for study or better study conditions, as we advance in the school system this difference becomes larger and larger (especially middle and high school).

On the other hand, although the majority of private schools in Chile have a higher quality of education, there are also schools whose sole purpose is to have the highest possible profit at the end of the year regardless of the results that the students give, it is because of this type of schools that focus on profit that tests such as the “SIMCE” had to be created.

  1. Hello! I’m agree with you opinion. Most of private schools in Chile have a higher quality education, but it’s not for the formation of the students but for the money, while public schools have few resources for the intellectual and personal formation of students. In my case, my nieces are to public school and, for its formation in mathematics, I take the labor of teacher. With that, she can have a good understanding despite being in a public school.

  2. Hello, I agree with you, it is difficult to measure the quality of a school, there are many factors behind it, but even so in low-income schools they can have quality teachers and students who care about learning. But it is true that the environment in which students from different sectors are raised is different, and this influences academic performance.

  3. Unfortunately, there are schools that are only based on profit and even kick out students who do not have very good grades because that affects the different grade rankings of the establishment.

  5. I agree with what you say, but on the other hand I believe that a good teacher can make a big difference not only by motivating you to study but also by giving you an orientation of what you like and what you want to do in life
